Key of Dreams: News

New stuff for 2010 - January 11, 2010

Wow! A new year, a new decade - 2010 should be fun. Our favorite radio station KINK.FM (101.9 on your FM dial) is playing songs from our CD mile _9 on some of their shows: Acoustic KINK (Sundays 7:00 to 10:00 am), Lights Out (Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 p.m. to Midnight), and the Local Music Spotlight  (weekdays at 9:30 pm.) Tune in and check it out.

This week we’ll be playing at The Heathman Hotel on Wednesday (7:00 to 10:00 pm), Natalie’s Estate Winery on Saturday (1:00 to 4:00 pm) and at The Brasserie Montmartre on Saturday evening (8:00 to 11:00 pm.) The Brasserie has been renovated back to its original grandeur. It’s a beautiful jazz club, which just reopened and should be a great addition to the Portland jazz scene. We’re excited to be playing there and hope you can make it down town and join us.

Please check our web site calendar for all the details (addresses and such) as well as other shows booked for January.

Be well and thanks for listening.

Great news - July 29, 2009

Great news…we’ve just finished our new CD mile _9! It was recorded, mixed, and mastered over seven days with the help of Billy Oskay at his world-class Big Red Studio in Corbett, Oregon. Check for a sneak preview. The disc will be available in about six weeks, but until then we’ll have some advance copies available at our upcoming shows.

We’ll be in Bend this Friday and Saturday playing at the Breedlove Festival along with some fantastic musicians. We’ll have as much fun listening and hanging with them as playing. For tickets and information visit

Spring & Summer fun - May 22, 2009

Spring is in the air and we’re happy to have had four months of relatively few shows, allowing us to get in some much needed R&R, do some awesome bike riding, and most importantly some rehearsals prior to recording the next CD.

Finishing out the month of May, we’ll be at Vidon Vineyard three days this Memorial weekend, La Rambla Restaurant in McMinnville Saturday night, and then the last of a string of shows at the Heathman Hotel this Wednesday night.

June finds us tracking and mixing at the Big Red Studio in Corbett, Oregon with Billy Oskay at the controls. Billy’s studio is one of the finest acoustic rooms in the Northwest and is matched by his seasoned talent, and top notch gear; we are stoked to be working with him for this project. CD release party TBA.

In July we start a series of outdoor concerts which take us thru the summer; darn that’s a nice word “summer!" Please check our web site calendar for all the specifics. One show we’re very excited about is the Breedlove Festival (July 30th – August 1st in Bend, Oregon.) This is a must see show for anyone who enjoys acoustic music. We are honored (and humbled) to be sharing the bill with some awesome musicians including Ed Gerhard, Chris Hilman, David Knopfler, Jay Roberts, Ben Lacy, Trace Bundy, California Guitar Trio, and fellow Portland musicians Misty River. For more information and tickets:
We hope your summer is filled with healthy, happy, warm days, and hope to catch you at one of our shows soon. Thanks so much for listening!

Band update - September 22, 2008

Hello Key of Dreams friends and fans,

Well it’s been almost a year since we last gave you an update on the band…it has been an amazing year for us. Since last November we’ve played right around 100 shows, met a ton of great people, played at some amazing venues, sold more CD’s then expected, and have received some great reviews locally, nationally, and worldwide.

We have added a 2nd percussionist by the name of Nancy Durham-Stairs. You may have seen her at a few of our gigs around town. She has an extensive background in Jazz, Fusion and Latin styles and is also a local Drum teacher in West Linn Or. She has been a great addition to the band, musically and personally. Eric and I couldn’t ask for two better percussionists in Doug and Nancy, They are amazing players!

The other BIG news this year was both Eric and Abe became Breedlove Artists! They build some of the most amazing guitars we have ever played and we’re grateful we can now be part of their team. Thanks Sam, Jason, Chris, and everyone else at Breedlove Guitars that made this possible. Please visit their website you will be amazed. (Pictures coming soon)

Another addition to the Key of Dreams arsenal of instruments this year was a Cajon made by Michael Kotzen at Kotz Cajon in San Diego, CA The craftsmanship, thought, and functionality that went into this instrument is impressive to say the least. Michael worked with us directly to get that “perfect sound” that we were looking for… he nailed it. Thanks Michael!!!

Haven’t been out to see the band in a while? No worries… we still have many more shows scheduled this year, the out-of-town highlights being The Blue Heron on Vashon Island, WA (on November 8th) and Casino Snoqualmie in Snoqualmie, WA (on December 6th & 7th.) Come 2009 we’ll be taking the first part of the year off to go back in the studio and record the next record, CANT WAIT!!

Please take a moment to sign our guest book and tell us what you think. Also, check our calendar for a complete list of upcoming shows.

Thanks for listening!

!Happy Birthday Key of Dreams! - November 6, 2007

We're celebrating two Birthdays today, Abe's and the band. I think Abe can now legally drink :-), and Key of Dreams is four years old. It was on this day (4 years ago) Abe & Eric first played guitar together after meeting down at the old Manila blues jam in Tigard. We thank you all for your support and look forward to another great year.

Recent stuff...

In print: We have a nice live-show review in this months' issue of Positively Entertainment and Dining. We are featured as the "Artist You Should Know" in the current Music Spectator (hits the street on Saturday.) We also have a mention in this month's Northwest Jazz Profile.

On the radio: We've been heard on OPB "Eclecticity with David Christensen" (91.5 FM) and on Radio Tierra (95.1 FM in Hood River.) Please, call and request us.

On TV: We did a short 5-song set for Ethos Live on local cable TV.

Booking: We've signed on with three local booking agencies; Northwest Artist Management, Pacific Talent, and Celebration Music. We'll see what happens....

Music licensing: We signed with two music-licensing firms, Imaginary Friends Music Partners (Santa Monica CA) and Seek Out Records (Arlington VA.) These companies license music for use in Film and TV.

A 4th member? Rumor has it there could be another KOD band member soon. We'll be doing some playing with Kirk Bryant on acoustic and electric bass later this month to see what develops.

We hope to see you at one of our shows during the remainder of the year and wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

Thanks for listening!

Eric, Abe, and Doug

New gig in town - September 14, 2007

Thank you all for your support over the past summer months. We’ve been playing many outdoor shows and though we love playing outside, we’re moving it back inside for the fall/winter season.

We’re starting a new gig in town this Thursday night and would love to have your support there. It’s at Wilf’s Restaurant and Bar, one of Portland’s most elegant jazz establishments. We’ll be playing as a trio with Doug from 7:30 to 10:30 PM. There’s no cover charge, free parking, great food and drinks (Abe and I had Spanish coffees there last night… nice), its smoke free, and a great place to hear live jazz.

Please come out to listen if you can, we would love to make this a regular gig and with your support, we will.

Hope to see you there:

Eric, Abe, and Doug

Turn up the heat - July 12, 2007

It’s summer and things are heating up at the Key of Dreams camp. Our new CD "unlocked" has been getting many good words of praise and interest from industry folks (radio, booking agencies, film & TV licensing, and local venues - more details on this stuff soon) and from our friends and fans, THANK YOU!

We’ve had a few comments like “these three invisible guys sure sound smooth” and “I can’t see who these guys are, but I like their sound.” Yes, I know only a silhouette photo. Next Saturday Dmitri Von Klein will photograph us down in Eugene and the new images will be posted one week later.

Abe and Eric are finally walking without limps, canes, or crutches following their ACL knee reconstruction surgeries. No more pain, no more drugs – yippee! "Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that are the best, like just walking around aimlessly."

Doug returned from Guatemala and Mexico with a bunch of interesting stories. If you see him at one of our shows, ask him about it. We’ll be playing or first gig together again tomorrow night, it’s a wine tasting party on the patio at the Mad Greek in Hillsboro.

We have a bunch of shows (some at new venues for us) around town and hope you can come out to catch our new songs, those from the CD, as well as some of our oldies to boot.

Hope your summer is full of fun and that we’ll see you soon.

Be happy and healthy.

Eric, Abe, & Doug

Hello Key of Dreams fans... - May 15, 2007

Well as some of you know this month is going to be a very busy one for Eric and Abe. The BIG news is that our new CD "Unlocked” is now available. Eric, Doug and Abe could not be more excited about this release, it’s been a long year of hard work (mostly for Eric) and we're just glad that we finally have something to show for it. We also have a NEW website and myspace page to coincide with the release of this CD.

The other big new this month is that both Eric and Abe will be undergoing knee reconstruction surgery from separate incidence that we sustained (Abe on his motorcycle, Eric on his skis.) This will give us some down time to help promote the CD, practice, play, and write new material. We hope to be up and around soon so we can get out there and start playing again.

Hope to see and hear from you all soon!

New CD - May 15, 2007

We’re pleased to announce our new CD “Unlocked” is now available. We took a long time to finish it but we’re happy with the results and here it is. It was recorded over the last year in our little studio above Eric’s garage. All 14 tracks feature classical acoustic guitars. Abe played his electric “Blacky” on a few tracks; Eric played steel string on a few and his12 string on one. Doug played Cajon, congas, bongos, various percussion, and just about anything he could get his hands on. Listen carefully and you’ll hear him playing an empty “Sobe” bottle!

You can hear samples of each song, purchase downloads of individual tracks, or purchase the physical CD here on our website. We’ll also have CDs available at all our live shows.

If you like what you hear, please spread the word.

Thanks for listening!

New website - May 15, 2007

Welcome to the new Key of Dreams website. Have a look around and a listen to our new CD. If you like what you hear, please sign or guestbook and/or come out to catch one of our live shows. We love to hear from you so don’t be shy; let us know what you think!
